Thank you, Hazel. Home is where the heart is, and the kitchen is the heart of the home, in my humble opinion.

Coz you love cooking🤩 I’m always in my kitchen, too, cooking. It’s where family talks during meals

The kitchen as a social hub is great. The French are very good at that. In England, some kitchens are no more than somewhere to microwave a ready meal, or unpacked a Deliveroo delivery.

My maternal grandmother was a great cook. She used to work “in service “ for some rich people. She must have leaned a lot then, and we all (her family) benefited from it.

She used to make bread called barm cakes, which were made with brewers yeast. Her bread was amazing. I’ve tried matching it, but there’s a certain je ne sais quoi that’s hard to reproduce.

I’ve googled barm cakes, and I often bought bread like this in town. My sisters love it, too. I think you copy the love of cooking from your grandma

I did wonder if you had that type of bread where you are.

Yes, my granny was a great exemplar for cooking. I often think of her.

We have that many here, but I wonder the difference of taste, of course.
