I found myself with some spare time in Southport today. So, I popped into a church.
There was a reception desk, but no one was on it. A member of staff tried walking passed me without saying anything. Not very friendly.
I asked him what denomination the church was and he said Church of England. I went inside the main part of the building.
It’s an interesting building as on the outside it looks traditional Victorian, yet on the inside it is completely modern.
I sat at the back, trying to decompress, and I said the Lord’s Prayer softly.
After a while, I got up to leave, and I went to donate. I used the card payment machine, but it just gave me a blank screen.
When I passed reception on the way out, there was a woman there. So, I told her the donation machine was faulty. She said “What?” I said the donation machine was faulty and it wasn’t accepting card payments. She said it was nothing to do with her and I should see Mathew.
I stood there for a few minutes waiting for a Mathew to appear, but no one did. I asked the lady if she could let Mathew know about the problem with card payments, and I recommended they switch the machine off and restart it. Then I left.
So, my first impression of Southport C of E church is that it’s not very friendly. I’m going to send them a copy of this blog post.
